Mr. Frere-Jones remains under contract with The New Yorker, where he has been a staff writer since 2004 and writes at least once a month. David Remnick, the editor, said Mr. Frere-Jones would continue to write for the magazine. “People who write here do all sorts of things — books, other writing — so he can do what he wants as long as the work here doesn’t suffer.”
